Draft Zoning Ordinance Update

The Monroe Township Planning Commission has been working for over 1 ½ years to revise and update the Monroe Township Zoning Ordinance.  The current Zoning Ordinance was last majorly overhauled in 1998; and in spite of the amendments made to the ordinance over those years, it was time to take a look at this ordinance as many things have changed in the last 20 plus years.

The proposed draft zoning ordinance has a new look, but is very similar to the current zoning ordinance in overall content.  The proposed draft is better organized and easier to navigate and understand.  A few zoning districts have been revised to encourage open space preservation while allowing for innovative neighborhood design where is makes the most sense.  Most of the land in Monroe Township still remains in an agricultural zoning district and continues to maintain a rural feel.

We are asking interested parties to review the new draft zoning ordinance and offer comments in writing by sending or delivering them to the Township office, emailed comments can be submitted to: monroetwp@monroetwp.net with the subject line "Draft Zoning Ordinance Comments".  A paper copy of the draft ordinance and map are available for review in the township office during regular business hours.  The Planning Commission anticipates holding the first public hearing on this matter November 1, 2023.
